Family Literacy
Writing Prompt Wednesdays
When fathers and sons write together, they create space for stronger communication, deeper connection, and shared growth.
About the Program
Writing Prompt Wednesday is built around a simple idea: sometimes writing makes it easier to say the things that are hard to say out loud.
Once a month, fathers and sons come together to eat, write, reflect, and talk. Each session begins with a guided writing prompt designed to help participants think about family, identity, communication, memories, hopes, and the experiences they share.
You do not have to be a writer to participate. There are no grades, no pressure to perform, and no requirement to share what you write. The goal is simply to create space for fathers and sons to slow down, listen to each other, and connect in a different way.
Fourth POV provides the journals, writing materials, prompts, and family dinner. Participants bring their own experiences, their own voices, and a willingness to spend time together.

What Participants Build
Writing Prompt Wednesday is designed to give fathers and sons something they can carry with them long after each session ends.
Participants build stronger communication, greater comfort expressing themselves, and new ways to listen to one another. Through shared writing and conversation, fathers and sons have space to reflect on their experiences, talk about things that may not always come up in everyday life, and learn more about each other.
Just as important, participants strengthen their confidence as writers and storytellers. Over time, the journals, prompts, conversations, and shared experiences help create a record of their voices, memories, and ideas—and give fathers and sons another way to stay connected.
What Participants Learn
Participants in Writing Prompt Wednesday learn how writing can be used as a tool for communication, reflection, and connection.
Each session gives fathers and sons a chance to practice putting thoughts into words, responding to guided prompts, and listening to each other’s perspectives. Participants learn that writing does not have to be formal or perfect to be meaningful, and that even a short prompt can open the door to a deeper conversation.
Over time, fathers and sons also become more comfortable expressing ideas, memories, questions, and experiences in their own words. The goal is not to teach a traditional writing class, but to help participants discover new ways to communicate, reflect, and connect through writing.
Who This Program Is For
Writing Prompt Wednesday is for fathers and sons who want to spend intentional time together, strengthen communication, and connect through writing.
You do not need to be a writer, enjoy school, or have experience with journaling. The program is designed for participants at all comfort levels, including those who may not usually think of themselves as writers.
If you are willing to show up, share a meal, respond to a prompt, and spend time listening to each other, this program is for you.
