Fathers & Sons Literacy

F.A.U.L.T. — Fathers Uniting to Learn and Teach

A sustained literacy and mentorship program where Black fathers and sons read, write, reflect, and teach each other side by side.

About the Program

F.A.U.L.T. — Fathers Uniting to Learn and Teach — is a sustained literacy and mentorship program for Black fathers and sons who want to grow together through reading, writing, reflection, and conversation.

This is not a program where fathers sit on one side of the room and sons sit on the other. Fathers and sons work side by side, session after session, building stronger literacy habits while also strengthening the relationship between them.

The teaching moves in both directions. Fathers bring life experience, discipline, perspective, and stories. Sons bring their own knowledge, reading habits, technology, and the language of their generation. Both get the chance to teach. Both get the chance to learn.

Each cohort is built around shared writing, journaling, storytelling, and reflection. The goal is not simply to complete activities. It is to help fathers and sons become stronger reading partners, stronger writing partners, and more connected to one another.

What Participants Build

F.A.U.L.T. participants build more than stronger reading and writing habits. Fathers and sons build a shared practice of showing up, learning from each other, and communicating in ways that can continue outside the program.

Through journaling, storytelling, reflection, and two-way teaching, participants become stronger reading partners and writing partners. Fathers have space to share experience, perspective, and lessons from their own lives, while sons have space to teach, contribute, and be heard in return.

Over the course of the cohort, each pair builds something that belongs to both of them: a stronger connection, a deeper understanding of each other, and a relationship shaped by more conversation, more listening, and more shared learning.

What Participants Learn

F.A.U.L.T. participants learn how to use reading, writing, storytelling, and reflection as tools for stronger communication and connection.

Fathers and sons practice writing side by side, sharing ideas, listening to each other, and taking turns teaching. Fathers bring life experience, discipline, and perspective. Sons bring their own knowledge, reading habits, technology, and the language of their generation.

Participants also learn how to stay engaged when conversations become difficult, how to reflect on what they are carrying, and how to build a relationship where both father and son have something to contribute.

No special writing background is required. The program is built for fathers and sons who are willing to show up, participate, and learn from each other.

Who This Program Is For

F.A.U.L.T. is for Black fathers and sons who want to strengthen both literacy and their relationship by showing up and learning together over time.

The program is designed for pairs who are willing to read, write, reflect, talk, and teach each other in a structured cohort setting. You do not need to be a strong writer, an expert reader, or have experience with journaling.

What matters most is the commitment to participate together, listen to each other, and keep showing up from one session to the next.
