Mental Health & Creative Writing
Fourth Healing
A safe space to process, heal, and find your voice through the power of writing.
About the Program
Fourth Healing is not a therapy program. It is a creative writing program that takes mental wellness seriously.
Designed for youth and young adults in underrepresented communities, Fourth Healing creates safe, culturally responsive spaces where participants use journaling, poetry, and personal narrative to explore their inner lives, process difficult experiences, and build emotional strength. Writing becomes the tool. Healing becomes the outcome.
We built Fourth Healing because we understand that mental health support in underserved communities is often inaccessible, underfunded, or culturally disconnected. Fourth Healing doesn't replace professional mental health care — it complements it by giving participants a creative outlet that is entirely their own.

What Participants Experience
Every Fourth Healing session is a judgment-free space. Participants are never required to share what they write. The program moves at the pace of the group and is facilitated by practitioners who understand the intersection of creativity, culture, and emotional wellness.
Through guided writing exercises, poetry workshops, and personal narrative development, participants learn to sit with difficult emotions rather than avoid them — and to transform those emotions into something powerful on the page. Each session builds on the last, creating a personal body of work that belongs entirely to the participant.
What Participants Learn
Fourth Healing teaches participants a set of creative and emotional tools they carry well beyond the program. Participants develop the ability to identify and name their emotions through writing, use journaling as a daily mental wellness practice, transform personal experiences into poetry and narrative, build resilience through creative expression, and recognize the difference between creative processing and crisis — and know when to seek additional support.
These are not just writing skills. They are life skills rooted in creativity and self-awareness.
Who This Program Is For
Fourth Healing is open to youth and young adults in Hartford and surrounding communities who are carrying something heavy and looking for a creative way to process it. No writing experience required. No mental health background required. Just a willingness to show up, write honestly, and take up space.
This program is especially designed for young people who have experienced trauma, loss, stress, or difficulty and have never had a safe creative outlet to process those experiences
